Transformer Design

Copper Transformer Windings

The windings in a transformer design can really make a difference in the performance of the transformer.  Copper is an excellent electrical conductor and much more conductive than aluminum is.  Choosing a transformer design with copper wiring will provide the transformer with a long, maintenance free life along with savings on your electrical bills.  The savings using copper transformer windings can be as much as $1000 annually.  The transformer design on a TEMCo transformer uses 100% pure electrolytic copper wiring that is wound around the copper coils of the transformer. 

TEMCo Transformer Core Design

The TEMCo transformer design of the core is very unique.  It is wound in a way that ensures that the flow of magnetic flux is being carried in the direction of cold-rolled grain-oriented steel for minimal core loss.  To reduce vibration on a TEMCo transformer, anti-vibration isolators are placed between the element and the enclosure of the transformer.  This transformer design will guarantee a much quieter operation.  Due to the efficient  transformer design, TEMCo transformers comply with the CSA-802-94 Standard for maximum losses. 

Cooler Running Transformer Design

TEMCo sees to it that all of their transformer designs are made for cooling running.  Their transformer design is manufactured with a heatproof Class 220 degrees C materials.  This means they will operate well below any temperature rise of around 150 degrees.  This is usually the maximum allowable temperature.  A terminal board is added to the transformer design to help with trouble free connecting of the line and load cables. 

Voltage and Harmonics

The TEMCo transformer design interlaces the windings on both coils of the transformer.  The result is better coupling with superior regulation of a maximum of 2.5% voltage drop at 1.0 power factor. Before minimum low voltage limitation are reached, higher peak loads are possible.  This allows the required voltages to be applied to any equipment at much greater distances.  To ensure a balanced voltage within .2%, the TEMCo transformer design uses a stiff internal neutral that does not shift.

TEMCo offers the T-T connection for transformer design on their three phase distribution transformers.  With this type of connection a 30 degree phase displacement is seen between the primary and the secondary.  There is a 120 degree phase angular relationship between the line currents and line voltages as well.  Using the TEMCo T-T connected transformer design, tripleN harmonics are cancelled in the magnetic circuit.  They will not flow into the primary windings as some transformers do.  Copper loss reduction is about 14% when using the T-T connection along with less heat and plus the transformer life will be extended.
