Buck Boost

TEMCo carries a wide variety of buck boost transformers that are small single phase transformers.  The buck boost transformer is generally known to reduce or raise line voltage on an application 5 percent to 20 percent.  The standard type of buck booster usually has primary voltages of 120V, 240V or 480V with secondaries of 12V, 16V 24V, 32V or 48 volts.  TEMCo carries available sizes ranging from 50 volt amperes up to 10 kilovolt amperes.  If for some reason, these ranges don't suit your needs, give us a call at 510-490-2187 and we can custom make a buck boost transformer that will fit your application specifications.   

Why Use A Buck Boost?

Most electrical and electronic equipment does not operate correctly if a supply voltage is either too high or too low, especially if it is more than 55 percent too high or too low.  The buck boost transformer can correct this issue.  If the supply voltage is too low, the buck boost can boost the supply voltage up and if it's too high, then the buck boost can lower the voltage on the application.  The buck boost will only adjust the voltage but not the frequency.  They also will not adjust the cycles of electricity which means that you should not use it on any equipment that requires 50Hz in the United States.  If the equipment is designed to run on 50Hz or 60Hz, then you should have no problem using a buck boost.

Three Phase Buck Boost

The buck boost transformer is often described as being small but there are some instances when they are not so small.  The three phase buck boost is such an instance.  The buck boost transformer can be used in groups of two or three that are ganged for three phase applications.  The three phase buck boost is configured to handle much larger loads.  When voltages are continuously low, they supply an additional amount of voltage to make up any differences. The three phase buck boost are used on many applications that operate with three phase motors.  This ensures that any overheating or other stresses don't take place because lower than optimum voltage can cause this.  They can also protect equipment if they have too high of voltage as well.
